Handholding Kills Learning

I am going to share with you one of the biggest lessons in parenting.

At least for me…

I thought I was the most carefree father in the world until I found myself being too protective over J and K.

Here’s the story:

Every bicycle for children comes with training wheels. I think the inventor’s intention was good. That is to help children to learn how to ride a bicycle more easily.

However from my recent experience, this is NOT the case. In fact, the training wheels did not help J and K at all.

In contrast with what I thought, training wheels HINDER children from learning to ride.

What I hate about Chinese New Year

Every year I go back to my hometown to celebrate Chinese New Year with my folks and brothers.

This year is no exception.

Chinese around the globe will celebrate the first day of the lunar calendar this coming Monday, January 23.

(This year 2012 is the year of the water dragon.)

While I have my share of happy moments during CNY (especially when I was small), there is one thing that I can’t stand that pops up during the Spring Festival.

Kuala Sepetang Day Trip

We didn’t really plan for this trip except getting a rough idea how to get to Kuala Sepetang from Penang by checking out Google Maps.

Last Tuesday, on the way home from our hometown after visiting my mom and dad, and my wife’s granny during Christmas holidays, we detoured to Kuala Sepetang for a quick visit after getting an inspiration from a friend who went there just a few days before.

Kuala Sepetang is the hometown to one of my best friends but I hadn’t got the chance to pay this small town a visit that was once called Port Weld – which is famous for the first railway station in Peninsular Malaysia. However the station is no longer in existence. [Read more…]

Gold Coast: A Weekend Family Trip

A visit to Brisbane is incomplete if you don’t go to the Gold Coast.

Weekend before, we drove to Sunshine Coast – north of Brisbane. And this time, we headed south to one of Australia’s most popular destinations: Gold Coast.
