First thing in the morning – after our breakfast at the hotel restaurant, we went to Kyoto – about an hour’s bus drive.

I don’t know why but we walked a long distance before reaching Gion (祇園) – the place is popular because it is where geisha hang out in Kyoto.
We went there in the morning, as you might have expected, there were hardly any geisha around on the street. What you can see at these hours are Japanese tea houses and restaurants. This is where geisha perform while customers are having their dinner at night. [Read more…]
This is amazing. Not only is it old but the “technology” used to build this temple was beyond time – even though it is nothing in today’s building technology.
Kiyomizu, which means pure water, founded in 798. Kiyomizu (清水寺) is a wooden temple with its main hall built over a valley supported by 139 pillars (15m high) at the bottom. If that is not impressive enough, with no nails. [Read more…]
The tour guide told us that Japanese must have natto for breakfast. I saw this at Grand Hotel Hamamatsu and I gave it a try. Natto is a type of fermented soy beans. Before eating, you mix the ingredients with a pair of chopsticks. Natto tends to get sticky and creates web-like threads during mixing. It tastes bitter. [Read more…]
It is said Lake Ashi is the most beautiful lake in Hakone. We took a cruise on Lake Ashi for about 10 minutes. The ship is in the shape of a pirate ship. [Read more…]
