I changed our half-meat, half-veggie family diet to one that is mainly veggie-based after Chinese New Year this year.

The change was inspired by Dr Junger’s Clean book. Followed by reading up a bunch of books on raw foods and healthy eating. Plus testing out new recipes.

It is more than that. I started to throw away processed foods (canned, packaged foods) and began to introduce whole foods to my children, especially raw and unprocessed foods. [Read more…]

Inexpensive Ways to Celebrate Valentine’s Day

Frankly, I don’t buy the ideas how one should splash on Valentine’s Day. The media is trying to coax you into believing that anything short of a romantic candle-lit dinner at a fancy restaurant with a dozen of roses is sub-standard celebration.

The last thing you need is having to pay extra for the special occasion which costs lower on normal days.

If you don’t intend to spend too much and being squeezed by creative marketers who are after your money, you still can have a wonderful Valentine’s Day without burning a hole in your pocket. [Read more…]

Chinese New Year: Gathering, Bonding, and Food

We just reached home two days ago from Chinese New Year celebration. Fortunately the traffic was smooth before it got worse in the afternoon.

We decided to start the 360km road trip 6 in the morning to avoid the anticipated traffic congestion. We turned out making the right decision because the highway was jammed big time in the afternoon. [Read more…]

When Should Children Stop Taking Afternoon Naps

It is hard to figure out when you should let your child skip naps. There is no hard and fast rule to know when your child no longer needs a nap.

I don’t really encourage toddlers not to have afternoon nap. Reason being they tend to get really grumpy when they get tired (for not having enough rest), especially in the evening. [Read more…]
