Free Play Encourages Creativity and Independence

When they are playing by themselves, I do my best not to interfere. I don’t dictate how J and K play and I don’t show them the “right” way to play with a particular toy.

It’s free play.

It’s up to them how they want to play it out. I encourage them to fully use their imagination when they play. I will do my best not to criticize unnecessarily.

Family Vacation to Hong Kong

I took the family to Hong Kong for a short vacation from 4 November to 8 November. Though it was quite rush but we did have a good time.

While we were planning for the trip, the focus was on J and K. It is a child-centered trip though we tried to slip in some other activities.

We touched down Hong Kong at night after a 3.5 hour flight.

You Must Get This When in Hong Kong

At the airport, we get ourselves prepared for the following day’s travel by getting Octopus cards for everyone. There are three types of cards: child (ages 3-11 – $70), adult ($150) and elder ($70). You can get it at any MTR train counters at the airport. It is a stored value card. You can use it for many things: transport, retail shops, parking, etc. This is a must-have even for Hong Kong people. You are advisable to get one when you are in Hong Kong. [Read more…]
