When the hitting stops, the learning will begin.

I GOT a call from a parent of an eight-year-old school girl last week. She related how her daughter was punished repeatedly by her class teacher followed by the vice-principal, both on the same day. After she complained to the parent-teacher committee chairman, she was told to wait for their action. [Read more…]

Think back on your own life for a moment – did your family have traditions or something special that you did each year, on a holiday or some other special occasion? Creating or passing on family traditions are a great way to spend time with family and pass on heritage to your own children. It creates memories that your own children will remember for the rest of their lives and that they might pass on to their own children.

If you have known me for a while, you might know I am a big fan in raising self-reliant and independent children.

I notice there is an unhealthy trend that today’s parents are over-spoiling their children. In the name of protecting the young ones, they deprive the kids of precious opportunities to learn to be responsible for their acts. [Read more…]

Modern parents have so much to think about! They worry about their children’s grades, bullies on the playground, the negative influence of the media and too much time spent on computers and electronic games.

In life there are challenges we have to face. Parenting is one of them. Sometimes we are too bogged down by all things children and it causes other aspects of our life in limbo.

This is the exact situation faced by one of our readers. She is kind enough to let us reproduce her email here:

Recently my daughter got Rotavirus, since last Tues, now still in the recovering stage. The main point which I think I handle quite bad is whenever my kids sick, I am extremely sad, depress, nervous…. Due to my over worry, I will have bad emotional, quarrel with family members etc…

She is not alone. I bet most of us have gone through situations similar to this. We are nervous when our child is sick. We are worried when our child’s safety is threatened. This is normal. However, we must not let stress ruin our lives. We have to face it or at least reduce it. [Read more…]
