Family Trip to Macau

September 17, 2014 By Abel Cheng

We took advantage of the UPSR exams holiday for a trip to Macau 澳門 (also Macao).

Macau is Special Administrative Region (SAR) of China, just like Hong Kong. It used to be Portuguese colony until 1999.

From Kuala Lumpur, it takes four hours’ flight to reach Macau International Airport. Macau Airport is not huge and it’s good for travelers as we don’t need to walk too far to get out the airport. [Read more…]

Our First (Real) Camping Trip

September 5, 2014 By Abel Cheng

Pantai Nenasi, Pahang

Honestly, we dared not take up the challenge in the past few years. We were invited to participate in an annual camping trip to Pahang – at least once a year. We turned down every time due to unreadiness and other unknown factors.

But not this year! Somehow my wife and I felt that this is the time to take up the challenge. And at the same time, it’s also a weekend getaway for the family.

We (ok ok, it’s my wife) took about a month to prepare for the camping. We bought some of the equipment while some we borrowed from friends. We don’t mind investing in the tools and gadgets and all things camping, but we are not sure if we (I mean the kids) like it or not. [Read more…]

Needless to say, among other attractions, Legoland Malaysia is the highlight of the trip. [Read more…]

I didn’t expect this to happen so soon. Especially judging from the introvert nature of J.

When she was much younger, J needed much time to get along and socialize with someone she had not seen before. Betting her to go crazy playing with someone she hardly knew would have left you shirtless.

All these and more have changed. I am not saying that she is highly sociable now but she’s at least much better than before. [Read more…]

A case of premature teenager syndrome

If you think you have to wait until 14 or 15 to experience teenager syndrome, think again.

I don’t know about you but for me I don’t need to wait that long to experience cranky behavior from my child. Maybe it’s a case of adolescence comes knocking early.

In recent weeks, my wife and I notice that J (who is now 11) is very short-tempered and sometimes she can get highly emotional. Especially when she hears something that she doesn’t like.

But the problem is the definition of “like” is very subjective and vague. What we think is fine is not fine to her. Whenever she hears something not to her liking (a comment, for example) or against her will, she will start shouting or even crying uncontrollably. [Read more…]
