Japan Trip: Close encounter with Fujisan

December 30, 2010 By Abel Cheng

Day 4 of our Japan trip.

At 9am, the tour guide made a phone call to somebody. And the call determined if we could go all the way up to 5th Station of Mount Fuji (Mt Fuji has a total of 10 stations, right up to the peak).

This is only possible if the weather is excellent. Unfortunately, we were only allowed to go to Station 1, standing at 1,291m.

When we reached Station 1, we had about 30 minutes to walk around and take pictures. It was quite cold out there. There was snow on the ground.

It is hard to have a good look at Mount Fuji when you are at a close distance. But with the right angle and distance, you can capture a nice photo of the ever-evolving mountain.

TIP: Before reaching Station 1, there is a stretch of the road, when a bus is going over it at certain speed, it produces a nice rhythm when the tires and the road meet. According to the tour guide, the music depicts a Japanese folklore.
