Sites Let Preteens Network Online

Drawing preteens as young as 6 or 7, sites like Club Penguin and Webkinz are forcing parents to decide at what age they are willing to let their children roam about and interact with friends online. They, along with schools, are having to teach earlier lessons on safety, etiquette and balance with offline activities.

Cheap and nasty: toys that harm on the rise

THE importation of cheap and potentially dangerous toys has increased fivefold since 2000, with scores more presumably slipping under the authorities’ radar.

An analysis of the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission’s recall data shows 56 imported products designed for toddlers and babies were removed from retailers’ shelves over the past 12 months, compared with just 10 products in 2000.

Efforts to keep our children safe

Every year, more than three million children are rushed to the hospital because of an accident at home.

This week, a toddler died after getting stuck inside a dishwasher that was programmed to turn on automatically when the door closed.  It’s cases like these that has some questioning the safety of high-tech appliances.

Wal-Mart Recalls Baby Bibs Containing Lead

The discovery of lead in the fabric of a brand of baby bibs sold at Wal-Mart stores has resulted in a recall of the items, the company said.

The bibs, sold under the Baby Connection brand name, came in packs of two to seven bibs, with embroidered prints or images of Sesame Street characters. Some were sold as long ago as 2004. The bibs were made by Hamco Inc. exclusively for the Bentonville-based retailer.
