It takes 7 years to teach a child to eat by herself

No she is not physically challenged.

She has perfect hands and fingers.

But it took 7 years to teach her to eat by herself.

I am talking about my friend’s daughter.

Every time she ate, the mommy would feed her.

Not that the mommy didn’t want her to eat by herself but whenever she refused to pick up the spoon and feed herself, the mommy gave in and fed her instead.

This had been going on for 7 years ever since she was born.

If I were the girl, I wouldn’t want to feed myself too. There’s no point for me to learn to do that.

Why should I? The mommy is always there to feed as long as I won’t move my hand.

Things changed one day when the mommy was away for a week and the daddy took over the responsibility of taking care the child.

The daddy successfully “trained” the child to eat by herself in one week which the mommy failed to do in 7 years.

I don’t want to claim credit for it but the daddy used the same method I mentioned in The Nonconformist’s Guide to Parenting.

It’s all about how to “make” your child eat without using force, bribe, or yelling.

The technique allows the child to eat voluntarily – just as what happened to the girl.
