Our children exposed to harmful chemicals?
Written by skquah

I recently come across articles and books talking about harmful-chemicals (cancer-causing chemicals) in our daily used products, including baby shampoo, toothpaste, etc.

The reports highlighted some brands that are widely available in the market today.

Is it true that these manufacturers are only thinking of profits, therefore using the cheaper alternatives as the ingredients, without considering much about its harmfulness?

What is more concerning is that currently there is no law that can prevent them from doing this, because the side-effect does not show immediately, but rather after accumulating for years.

I change my son's shampoo and body shampoo immediately, because as a parent, I definitely do not want him to be exposed to all these unnecessary risk (that potentially can cause greater harm in the years to come).

Is this an issue to be concerned of, or am I just over-reacting?

Wow, I can see that you love your son very much! A very caring parent.

But having said that, there are things we can control and many beyond our control. Of course, it's good to take care of your son's health but don't over worried. Risks are unavoidable and they are part of life. The best gift to our child is to teach them how to handle risks that come into their life.

Hi skquah, thank you for sharing your thoughts. Would you mind sharing the report so that we are aware of which commercial products are listed as harmful?

  Hi Rou's Mummy.

One of the book that I have read is the
"CAP Guide - Cancer-Causing Chemicals in Cosmetics & Daily Use Products". It was Published by Consumers Association of Penang.

The Consumers Association of Penang in Malaysia have done a lot of research on common toxins in toiletries and cosmetics. This little book highlights the toxic ingredients and goes as far as naming and shaming well-known branded products found on our supermarket shelves.

You can get this book from "POPULAR Bookstores".
