A simple but fun birthday

If you’re busy, you can still show your love to your wife on her birthday.

What matters most is you must remember her birthday. Otherwise, you land yourself in an unwanted situation in which no one could help.

My wife’s birthday had just passed. As usual, on that day, I woke up early, around 6am. Only then did I realize that I had not given a proper thought on how to celebrate my wife's birthday.

On a weekday, there’s not much you could do. Nevertheless, I had to come up with something.

While I was doing my business in the toilet, I kickstarted my half-asleep mind searching for ideas. To stimulate my mind more, I look around the toilet. God knows how stimulating a toilet could be.

When you work hard at something, you'll be rewarded, even in a toilet. One light bulb moment. One cool idea came to my mind. Hey, what about writing a "Happy Birthday" message on the mirror, right here in the toilet?

Surely my wife would not miss the message as a mirror is a woman’s best friend, especially after sleep. I decided to go ahead with the idea. I quickly grabbed a marker pen and scribbled “Happy Birthday, Dear!” on the mirror before she woke up.

I wanted to see her expressions when she read the mysterious message but I have to bathe my daughter to get ready for school. Morning rush, you know?

But, as it turned out, it was a pleasant surprise for her. Initially, she thought it was mold on the mirror (came out overnight?) when she couldn't see clearly without her glasses. How interesting!

Apart from that I bought a simple card and asked my daughter to write her name, my son's name on the card. But I did the spelling for her. When my wife came home from work, my daughter passed her the card. Another surprise.

I know children love to sing birthday song and blow candles. I bought a small piece of cake and so that each of us could gather around the cake and had some fun.

Even though it was a simple birthday celebration for four of us, we enjoyed it. And more importantly, it didn’t burn a hole in my pocket.

There's a moral to this story. If you want to surprise your partner with a message on the mirror, don't use mold-like color marker pens. Maybe you need to borrow your child’s magic pens and make sure they are erasable.
