Come on - we say these things to teach our kids. And not all of these statements hold the same weight, for example:

\"Don\'t smoke.\" Anyone with children who smokes is a bad parent.

\"Eat more veggies.\" A parent who makes this statement yet doesn\'t eat their own fair share isn\'t being a bad parent. They may no be as effective as they could be by leading by example - but their not being a bad parent.

Your article goes WAY to far. There are A LOT of things that I do (drink a glass of wine, drink coffee or soda, eat spicy thai and mexican foods) that I don\'t allow my children to do. The fact is that kids need to learn that there are some things that adults do that they can not & that there are some things that they must do (go to bed at 7:30, take naps, homework, ect.) that adults don\'t.

I believe in leading by example - but I also don\'t believe that we have to be perfect parents to be effective parents.

You really should try to relax - I think you\'ll be a happier parent for it. And a happier parent makes for happier kids! - Momma in SD

Maybe, that\'s a better word. Of course we can\'t be right all the time but my point is, as the saying goes: action speaks louder than words. - wonderdad

The title is quite harsh. It\'s more about being a hypocrite than a liar. The important thing to remember is to err is human. If you get it \"right\" 80% of the time as a parent you\'re going to put your kids on a solid journey through life. - Ben
